Appointed Group Commercial Director on 19 July 2010, Mike is responsible for Trading, Marketing, IT and Online. He has been a member of the Operating Board since October 2004 and an Executive Director since 1 August 2007. He joined Sainsbury’s from Big Food Group where he was a Board Director of Big Food Group plc and Managing Director of Iceland Food Stores. He previously worked for both ASDA and Tesco, where he served in a variety of senior management roles. Mike was appointed to the board of directors at Insight2Communication at its inception and he is also a Non-Executive Director at Greene King plc and a member of the supervisory board of GSI UK.

David joined the Coca-Cola system in 1991 to become Director, Coca-Cola International, responsible for a European Supply function encompassing strategic planning, finance and customer service. In 1999, he transferred into the Coca-Cola Bottling system in Brussels, then moving to Vienna where he held the position of CPO for Coca-Cola Helenic, covering 26 countries. In 2006, he returned to the UK to take up his current position. Prior to Coca-Cola, David spent 10 years with Nestlé Group in the UK and Switzerland.

Dirk Jan de With has worked at Unilever for 25 years, in Supply Chain roles in Foods and HPC, and has been based in The Netherlands, Germany, Israel, Italy and Switzerland. In his current capacity he is responsible for global procurement of Ingredients and the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan commitments on Sustainable Sourcing. Prior to this he was VP Procurement for Europe, as VP Business Integration he was setting up the Unilever Supply Chain Company and implementing SAP across all operations in Europe, VP Planning & Customer Service for the Ice Cream business in Europe and VP Supply Chain at Unilever Israel. From 1987 to 1999 he held various management positions in Unilever’s Supply Chain. Dirk Jan de With has a MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering / Operations Management from Twente University in The Netherlands and a MBA from the European University, Antwerp/Belgium. He serves as Board member on the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) Platform since 2012.

Closing key note interview: Insight from the top – What success looks like if you embed responsible sourcing from the start

Sophi is Managing Director of Divine Chocolate Ltd, the innovative Fairtrade company co-owned by cocoa farmers. As well as growing a popular chocolate brand, for 13 years she has campaigned energetically for the terms of trade for smallscale producers to change, and promoted more socially responsible business models. Sophi has been a Social Enterprise Ambassador and an elected director and co-chair of Social Enterprise London. As Chair of the Fairtrade London steering committee, she successfully led the campaign to ‘Make London a Fairtrade City’. In the New Year’s Honours List 2008/09 Sophi was made an MBE for services to the food industry, and is on the London Food Board led by Rosie Boycott.

Luis Neves is Chairman of the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), and Climate Change and Sustainability Officer, Executive Vice President, at Deutsche Telekom Group. With over thirty years of experience at the national and international level in the field of telecommunications and Information Society, Luis has played a fundamental role in promoting the role of ICT in relation to climate change. Luis was the driving force and chairman of the steering committee of the landmark study ‘œSMART 2020 – Enabling the Low Carbon Economy in the Information Age’. Luis currently holds positions and participates in a range of international projects and initiatives including GeSI, the United Nations Global Compact Group and Steering Committee of the United Nations ‘Caring for Climate Initiative’.

Alberto Andreu (Madrid, 1963) holds a Degree in Law at Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE-ICAI), a MBA at Instituto de Empresa (IE), and the Phd credits at Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE-ICAI). In October 2001 he joined Telefónica, S.A. At present, he is Global Corporate Reputation and Responsibility Director. He started his professional career in the Research Department at IE. He worked for CEPSA (Compañía Española de Petróleos) as a Manager of Internal Communication Development. After this period, he joined the banking sector, first in Banesto, as a Manager of Internal Communication and Corporate Identity; later on in Santander Central Hispano, the major Spanish bank, where he was a Managing Director of Corporate Identity and Culture for a period of 2,5 years. He still teaches at the Instituto de Empresa. He has published several articles in technical publications. Additionally, he holds a seat in the Spanish CSR Council, recently created by the Spanish Ministry of Labour and Immigration; he is a Member of the Global Compact Spanish Steering Committee; counsellor of the Chair of Ethics (Cátedra de Ética Económica y Empresarial) at Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE-ICAI).

Keynote session on sustainable supply chain strategy: Can a B2B membership group drive supply chain innovation?

Vania Grandi is Board Member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), and also chairs the RJC’s Communication Committee. She represents Rio Tinto, which was a founding member of the RJC. Rio Tinto is a world leader in discovering, mining and processing the earth’s mining resources in an economically, socially and environmentally responsible way. At Rio Tinto, Vania is the Vice President, Marketing and Sales of Copper and Precious Metals for Rio Tinto’s Copper Group, which includes Kennecott Utah Copper (KUC). Vania is based in Salt Lake City and has responsibility for the marketing, sales and transportation of copper, gold, silver and sulfuric acid from KUC. She has been with Rio Tinto for nine years. Prior to becoming General Manager of Marketing in 2008 (and VP in 2010), Vania led Kennecott’s Sustainable Development program for three years. In her current marketing role, Vania continues to contribute to Kennecott’s and Rio Tinto’s global Product Stewardship strategy. Before joining Rio Tinto, Vania worked in the Media Relations and Communications Department of the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Organizing Committee and as a reporter and editor for the Associated Press at their bureaus in Rome, Italy, and Salt Lake City. Vania received her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and her MBA from Westminster College in Utah. She speaks four languages and is a six sigma black belt.

Greg Priest

Build a robust and sustainable sourcing strategy: Learn from a Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) partnership case study with WWF and IKEA

Greg Priest is a leading specialist in business sustainability and supply chain responsibility. As Head of Sustainability Policy, he leads development of the policies and processes needed to achieve IKEA Group’s ambitious sustainability strategy. Current priorities include developing the company’s approach to the protection of human rights. Greg is also responsible for IKEA’s external engagement on sustainability and for developing partnerships to support the company’s social and environmental goals. He sits on the board of the Global Social Compliance Program, a cross industry group focused on supply chain responsibility. Greg began working with sustainability at IKEA in 1998 and became Social & Environmental Manager for Canada in 2002. Prior to his current position, Greg worked as Global IWAY Compliance Manager to develop and implement IKEA’s approach to supply chain responsibility. Greg is a Canadian citizen and lives in Sweden with his wife and son. He has an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto, with a major in Business Sustainability.

Mike Barry is head of sustainable business at Marks & Spencer. He is part of the team that oversees Plan A, the eco and ethical programme with the ambition to make the company the world’s most sustainable major retailer by 2015. He is also Chair of the World Environment Centre, following six years on the WWF programme committee. Mike was named the Guardian’s inaugural Sustainable Business Innovator of the Year in 2011.

Christine Diamente

Part 1. Regaining trust through a strong, on-going sustainability communication strategy

Christine Diamente is Head of Sustainability, Corporate Messaging and Brand at Alcatel-Lucent. In the Sustainability function, she leads the company’s overall sustainability strategy, targets and global reporting. Since assuming this role in early 2011, Christine was tasked with recalibrating the company’s sustainability strategy as a business imperative. Today, for two years in a row, Alcatel-Lucent has been ranked No 1 in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and is Supersector leader for its strategy and performance in the technology sector. Prior to this role, Christine served for two years as Director of Corporate Relations, where she built and led Alcatel-Lucent’s Strategic Partner activities with the World Economic Forum (WEF). Her tasks included being Sherpa to the CEO, management leaders and managing end-to-end customer and media relations for all activities including the Annual Meeting at Davos. Before that, for almost ten years, Christine was Director European Affairs where she led Alcatel-Lucent’s corporate representation with European institutions at the highest levels including playing a leadership role in relevant European associations and leading task forces with EU institutions. She was also a member of Alcatel-Lucent’s integration team in Public Affairs, elected Board Member of European Internet Foundation including co-chair of the Programming Committee (2004-2008), elected Vice Chair of Digital Europe Policy Group (2004-2008), a member of the European Commission Task Force on Innovation, Sherpa to CEO and CTO in Brussels Round Table, and a Member of European Ideas Network. Christine started her career in 1996 with Newbridge Networks in Canada. She graduated with a Master’s in the History of Technology and International Relations and a B.A. in History and International Politics from the University of Ottawa. She also completed the Management Acceleration Programme at INSEAD Business School in France. She speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish fluently.

Melinda Painter, with 20 years of supply chain management experience in high technology organizations, serves as Director Supply Chain Social Responsibility and Diversity at BlackBerry. Dedicated to ensuring quality, she develops sourcing solutions that support innovative products in a rapidly changing and complex technology environment. Her current project is establishing the course and platform for a world class social responsibility and diversity program at BlackBerry. Having launched BlackBerry’s Supplier Diversity Program 2 years ago, the program has experienced phenomenal growth in diversity spend. Melinda also conducts extensive training and education programs to develop in-house awareness of diversity benefits and the competitive advantages they bring. Melinda instituted benchmarking and measurement tools, and works proactively with BlackBerry commodity teams and outsourcing partners to engage diverse suppliers. Active in the community, Melinda also represents BlackBerry as a Board of Directors member at CAMSC and WEConnect Canada. In a previous position as Director Supply Chain at Dell, Melinda represented the company as a Board of Directors member of WBENC.

Mercedes Talló, Director of Sustainable Value Chains at Rainforest Alliance leads the market development team for the Agriculture division. In this role, she manages the global portfolio of 3000+ companies sourcing products from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms. Mercedes has a wealth of experience in food and retail, previously working in the private sector with companies such as Walmart and Diageo. As an avid entrepreneur, she co-founded Organic Food Brokers Ltd, an importer of organic foods into the UK, which saw her transition into the world of sustainable sourcing. Mercedes has an MBA from the London Business School, an MSc in Food Science from the University of Reading in the UK and a degree in Agriculture from the University of Barcelona.

Katja Sbikowski

Internal: Engaging Procurement/Buyers in sustainability on developing a holistic approach in assessing your suppliers

Katja Sbikowski is Head of Responsible Procurement at Novartis International AG. Since taking on the role in 2009, she has been responsible for phasing out the former Novartis Third Party Management supplier compliance program and replacing it with a new, more far-reaching and ambitious approach to ethical sourcing, Novartis Responsible Procurement (RP). Having successfully led the design phase of RP and paved the way for its organizational integration companywide, Katja launched the new program in April 2013. Responsible Procurement ensures that Novartis goods and services worldwide are ethically sourced. With a global spend of over USD 20 billion, Novartis has long recognized the importance of extending corporate responsibility commitments into its global supply chain. The new RP program takes ethical sourcing to the next level – assessing suppliers for the ethical risk they pose in Labor Rights, Health and Safety, Environment, Animal Welfare and Anti-Bribery. RP aims to move beyond compliance to promote real change in the supply chain, benefiting workers and the environment in countries where Novartis buys. Katja reports to the Group Chief Procurement Officer, and is supported by a dedicated team of Global RP Managers. Having started her career at Novartis in 2001, she held various communications, change management and operational roles, prior to joining the Global Procurement team in 2009. She has extensive experience in redesigning and implementing business processes across complex global, functional and cultural structures. Katja holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany where she was born. She is a native German speaker, fluent in English and French. Katja represents Novartis as a member of the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI) and is an active member of the International Association of Business Communicators.

Magda is in charge of the L’Oréal Buy & Care Program, which is the Procurement CSR policy. She has been working at L’Oréal since 1995 in Purchasing Department, as Quality Director and Raw Material Purchasing Director. She began taking care of Sustainable Procurement Program end 2011. It is at the heart of supplier relationship since the beginning , starting with supplier selection. Among strategic subjects are Social Audits, Raw Material Sustainable Sourcing, Carbon and water footprint.
