Procurement – Global Supply Chain Strategy

Procurement – Global Supply Chain Strategy

In a recent issue of Knowledge@Wharton (University of Pennsylvania) there is an interview with Marshall L. Fisher. For the last decade or so, Fisher’s research has been focused on retail supply chain management and now he is planning to introduce an MBA minicourse on global supply chain management.

In this interview, Fisher highlights some of the challenges facing global procurement, and he discusses the example of Luen Thai, a Chinese company that built a giant “supply-chain city,” becoming a one-stop shop for clothing manufacturers looking to outsource to low-cost producers. Luen Thai, based in southern China, are the largest private-label apparel manufacturer, so they produce for large retailers like Gap, Limited, Dillard’s, or branded apparel companies like Liz Claiborne in the United States and some European companies.
